Subject: [Troop 989] Mike Rowe from the Discovery Channel talks about Eagle Scouts
Mike Rowe has said in commercials for Dirty Jobs that the inspiration for the show was as a tribute to his father and grandfather. Rowe became an Eagle Scout on January 2, 1979. During his service project for Eagle Scout he read aloud for students and he cites this as one of the reasons he became interested in narrating and writing.
On being an Eagle Scout he said "The Eagle Award is not really meant for people who need to be dragged across the finish line. It's meant for a select few..."' You can read his whole letter to a scout at http://oakford.wordpress.com/2009/09/29/a-letter-to-potential-eagle-scouts/.
Mike has posted some cool stuff on his website at http://www.mikeroweworks.com/mikes-office. There is a link to watch the July31st Jamboree show on-line as well as a great video of Mike wishing the BSA a happy 100th birthday.
